ATTRIBUTES Cultivar Notes - Blue Sky Vine Warm up the winter days with a Mediterranean visitor! This reliable flowering vine is at home on either side of the Atlantic. With a nine-month floral display that starts in fall, it’s destined to be a cherished gift. This robust twining climber displays exquisite blue flowers with contrasting yellow throats. Thunbergia grandiflora is commonly known as the Blue Skyflower. You’ll recognize the flower color as being that of an absolutely flawless spring sky. Grow in full sun. Species Notes - Thunbergia grandiflora The Blue Sky Vine, Thunbergia grandiflora, is an exceptionally popular tropical vine that is easy, reliable, has excellent flower power and it can be grown as a die-back perennial in zones 8-9 if established early in the growing season. It may remain evergreen in warm frost free tropical climates where it can flower nearly yearround. The Blue Sky Vine is a heat and sunloving twining vine suitable for metal fences, smaller arbors, and medium to large trellises or other sturdy supports. Provide a well-drained, moderately fertile soil. The Blue Sky Vine can also be enjoyed as an easy and low-maintenance container plant. Genus Notes - Thunbergia Thunbergia is native to tropical eastern Africa, and is often cultivated for its attractive flowers. A vigorous twining vine, it will grow from 3-8 feet tall in a single season. The plants are not very drought tolerant and should be watered regularly for optimum growth. With an extensive variety of species with magnificent colors, Thunbergia look good in window boxes, mixed containers or climbing on trellises, arbors, fences or other structures around the home, and as a groundcover.
